This is a fwded msg,t hat I got from Susan on 6/21. If possible,
recalling how tense such a time is, I thought that I would send these to
the group for her. She said okay, so here's the first one:
Hi all,
The prayers are working so please keep them coming.
Mom is off the ventilator and trying to talk. She's
making noises and very frustrated that she can't talk.
They tell me it takes a few days for a the swelling
in your throat to go down after that tube comes out so
they can't yet assess the speech damage. But she is
communicating through hand squeezes, nods, and blinks.
We started physical therapy and occupational therapy
for her right arm and leg and therapists were amazed
at her strength and fight. They think she's a great
candidate for rehab. I've been telling everyone that
for days for I keep getting this "oh, she's 80, she
won't regain a lot of her functioning" crap, and I'm
like "You don't know my mother; she's been through
physical therapy before. They said she wouldn't walk
again after the gall bladder surgery and she did.
Beleive me, she'll regain functioning, 80 years old or
not." The therapists agree! So the prayers are
working!
I haven't had time to go through all your nice
emails and answer them. I have mobile email on my
cell phone but haven't fully figured out how to use it
(it's a new phone that I got just before she had the
stroke). I can see the emails and usually read them,
but can't answer from the phone. I will answer
eventually when I'm not spending hours and hours at
the hospital. Right now I'm the one who keeps who
calm and communicates best with her.
Thanks again!
Susan
