Susan's7/21/07 update:
Hi,
Things are finally improving! Dad is off the
ventilator and he passed the swallowing test, so he
can have juice and water. He's much happier and no
longer depressed. He doesn't have to have gall
bladder surgery (it's draining successfully), so this
is a huge improvement.
Mom is also improving. She's getting physical and
occupational therapy and sat on the side of the bed
for the first time yesterday. She has also managed to
get out a few words (yes was understandable, a few
others more garbled). Thursday she went 2 hours in
the morning and 3 in the evening on CPAP which is
breathing on her own (The vent is in a setting that
lets her breathe on her own). She's a long way from
getting off the vent but she's also starting to cough
which is good since it means she's trying to clear her
own airwaves. The only bad thing now is she's still
having low hemoglobin (in the 8s) so they think she
has an ulcer and will do an endoscopy Monday to
investigate. She has a long, long way to go, but
there is some hope now.
The prayers are working! Please keep th em
coming!
Thanks!
Love,
Susan
