Destroyer #134 "Bloody Tourists"

by boomerdad@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Eric Troup) Mar 19, 2004 at 03:14 AM

I really, really enjoyed this book. I read the reviews on Amazon.com,
and frankly was very surprised. It's not as though I fell off the
turnip truck just yesterday and started reading Destroyer books; I've
read a good twenty or so. Admittedly, it isn't the whole of the
series by any means, but my point is that I know enough of the
characters to not be some newby who has just begun to experience Remo
and Chiun. Sure, they've had more threatening enemies in the past ...
sure, there may not have been any innovative Sinanju practices ... but
are those really requirements in a good Destroyer book? I actually
enjoyed Remo being more ... investigative, if you will. It was quite
fun to see.

I'm just wondering if the people on this newsgroup share the negative
opinions of the Amazon reviewers, and if so, why? It seemed like
people were just annoyed that it wasn't Mullaney writing the books,
and much more annoyed that the author used to write for the
Executioner series. To me, it was quite obvious from just reading the
book that the author is/was a big fan of the series--a fact which was
confirmed through an email conversation. I, for one, am very much
looking forward to reading #135, whenever it gets delivered to my
door.
