The book description follows:
The title of the book might seem, to some, perverse. Yet behind it lies a
serious theological premise. This in turn rests upon a desire to treat
the
biblical record with respect and integrity. It by no means seeks to
denigrate Paul -- rather to understand him and respect him in a new
context.
Usually, the interpretation of Paul has relied on a dualistic
understanding
of Saul under law vs. Paul under grace. This book introduces, arguably, a
new paradigm in the interpretation of Paul. It suggests that the key to
understanding Paul could lie in the likely event that, following his
conversion, he, too, was "zealous for the Law", as were so many thousands
of
Christians in Jerusalem at that time. However, his reliance on the Law,
and
his inordinate pride in his spiritual heritage, led to catastrophic
failure.
"The Law was powerless to do" what it should have done, thus giving birth
to
Paul's radical gospel of grace.
