Well, as big a Conan fan as I am, it's nice to get extra reads between
the awesome regular series currently moving towards #17. "Jewels" was
done by P. Craig Russell, who I'm not that familiar with, only that he's
supposed to a big player in the comic game. I'm no art critic, but his
work in the 3 issue mini-series "Jewels Of Gwahlur" blows. My 13 yr old
daughter draws as well. The covers are pretty good, and some of the work
inside not bad. he has his own style, I get that, I just don't like it.
It doesn't fit Conan at all. Never the less, the story line (which he
wrote) IS good, which is why I kept buying and have all three. the story
itself is worth following, and wasn't bad. But his art fails, compared
to the great stuff Kurt Busiek and Gary Nord are putting out. Overall,
okay. As a Conan fan, I do appreciate Russell helping out the character,
and bringing us some extra Conan, while we waited on other issues.
